Artist Carmen Garza depicts a scene from her childhood. All of the people, buildings, and details from that day are included in her painting. |
Carmen GarzaArtist who paints pictures of memories and celebrations from her childhood.
She shows us all the details from that moment - the place, the people, the event. |
Styles of Art!
REALISTIC
Realistic Art looks like something from real life. It looks just as our eye might see it. Many or all details are shown, and colors are real. It looks as if a photograph was taken of an event or person or place, etc... Our first artist, Carmen Garza, creates artwork in the Realistic Style. She is trying to show us all details of where she was, what was going on, who was there, etc... so our imagination has little to fill in. |
ABSTRACT
Abstract Art does not look like real life. It comes from ones imagination. It is made of lines, and shapes, and colors. It takes longer to figure out what the picture is showing. Different people may see different things. Out next artist, Paul Klee, creates artwork in the Abstract Style. He is putting together different shapes to create his paintings. In many of them, we are able to tell what is going on, after an extended look at it. |
Shape
A shape is made when a line closes.
Geometric Shape: A shape with Straight Sides and Pointy Corners
Examples: SQUARE TRIANGLE RECTANGLE 5-SIDED (pentagon)
Paul Klee
Artist who used GEOMETRIC SHAPES to make his paintings.
His artworks are ABSTRACT, because he is not showing things to look like real life.
We can still find ideas that remind us of real things in his paintings.
The artwork to the Left is our Inspiration. We are attempting to make a Castle out of Geometric Shapes, just like Klee.
By REPEATING Geometric Shapes next to each other, they start to form an idea of a building or house.

QUARTER TWO Standards 1/2 and 6/7
ORGANIC SHAPE: A shape that has no corners, and all curved or curvy sides.

Paul Cezanne Artist who uses ORGANIC Shapes to make his paintings. His paintings are REALISTIC because he is showing us objects exactly the way they look in real life. He often times makes paintings based off of objects, like fruit, pitchers, glasses, plates, tablecloths, the he can see. This collection of objects is called a STILL LIFE. A Still Life can stay for many days in the same spot so an artist may leave and come back to the same objects. The objects he chooses have many curves, and little to no corners are found. |
